What's next for a Newly Qualified Celebrant?
I have just qualified as a marriage celebrant with the Academy of Celebrancy Australia and waiting for my authorisation from the AG. Hoping to work in the North West Sydney region. Would like to hear from other celebrants, especially if you recently qualified with the Academy. Are you getting much work or is the market already saturated with us newbies? What types of ceremonies are you performing which are not marriage related e.g. baby naming, funerals etc. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Re: What's next for a Newly Qualified Celebrant?
Hi What's Next
The ACCN goal is to provide a framework for celebrants to broaden the range of ceremonies they offer.
See:
www.accn.com.au/celebrant-existing/10-steps-for-r-and-r
In particular, This Is Your Life Birthdays and Wedding Anniversaries (not necessarily Renewals), Mother's and Father's Day ceremonies and the like.
If you want to be part of the future, we suggest you join our Australian Celebrants and Celebrations Network.
See Join Now:
www.accn.com.au/join-accn
The ACCN does not offer a 'cheap' service. Rather our support is packaged to suit different celebrants budgets.
You will gain a lot of information and support even on our entry level standard membership of $29.50 (ie an average of $2.50 per month) AND you can upgrade at any time later for an extra $50 to deluxe membership (averages less than $7 per month in the first year and renewals less than $5 per month)
See benefits of joining:
www.accn.com.au/why-join-accn
Happy to answer any question you may have about the ACCN

Look it is swings and round abouts. You need to get some under your belt to get the good will going, this is the best thing for new celebrants to see. If you have a network of people get them to put your cards around and promote you.

Hi there, I am a fairly new authorised celebrant in Far North Qld (about 4 months now) I am getting a bit anxious about not having any ceremonies as yet, but I do know it will take a little while to get my face out there, i am doing lots of things to get known in the town but there are quite a lot of good celebrants up here and it will be a long jaul I think. Any ideas would be welcome
Thanks Gwen - Rhapsody Ceremonies

Hi Gwen
1. Some of this depends on your motivation for doing weddings.
See: http://www.accn.com.au/celebrant-being-one/general-tips
2. I did a Google search and wasn't able to find you on the net. Having a website is one of the first tools to have in this day and age.
The ACCN has some tips about this. See: http://www.accn.com.au/celebrant-websites
3. Another big factor is your professional image and which target group you aim to attract. See:
http://www.accn.com.au/celebrant-being-one/general-tips
4. It is also important to gain as much business advice as you can. There are free or local costs services around so it is worth finding out what is near you.

Re: What's next for a Newly Qualified Celebrant?
Iv'e been registered since August 09 and found things to be slow to start until I got my own web site put signs in local shopping centre's and placed my business cards in hair salons ect. I registered with ACCN and also on Find a celebrant .com.au. I have also had my car sign writen. I have work coming in with help from all these . Nothing does better though than word & mouth. As you do more ceremonys you will get referrals. Hang in there.

Hi froyle10,
I was approved in October 2010, I have done exactly the same as Diane Paul - put a website up, a sign on my car,
putting my business card around the local businesses etc .... to date I have done a couple of weddings and a funeral, and have 4 bookings for October 2010 - I am pretty happy with that and I agree with everyone else it is slow going, and I think ultimately word of mouth is going to bring the most business. I have to say I am just happy to be able to be doing this, and even though I have only done a few ceremonies, I am totally hooked. At the moment I am like a sponge, reading everything in sight and soaking up as much knowledge as possible. The trainer we had was brilliant and he had so much knowledge to share which was great.
I am learning so much from reading the postings on this forum. Not long after joining ACCN, I had a chat with Rona, and she has me thinking way beyond the normal scope of ceremonies, this is something I am giving a lot of thought to.
Thank you to everyone who contributes to this forum and a big thank you to Rona and Ginny for your excellent excellent work.
Regards

Re: What's next for a Newly Qualified Celebrant?
Hi there all!!
I have only been registered since April 2010, and am eagerly awaiting my first wedding/ceremony! I have done all the things you suggest - advert on car, business cards, contacting events managers in major hotels and the list goes on. But every week I am finding something else i can use as a vehicle to get my name out there. No luck as yet but I will not give in.
The forum is so full of information, even if some of it is over my head at the moment. I appreciate all your input and I am gaining a lot from it.
Thank you to all and keep up the good work!@
