NOIM completed overseas
Just some clarification please.
I have a couple who have completed and signed (at the Aust Embasy) the NOIM in Europe - all fine. They lodged the Notice with me in December for marriage in February however they now live in Australia having moved here in December 09. So, do I go back into the NOIM and enter the period of residence in Australia as 2 months, or do I leave it blank??
thanks, Naomi

Hi there,
You haven't said if your couple are legal residents but the note below may help..
IF PARTY BORN OUTSIDE AUSTRALIA
Length of residence in Australia.
This is only required for those who are legal Australian residents .
Warmest regards

Re: NOIM completed overseas
Naomi,
That is the least of your worries. You need to ensure that when you complete the wedding day paperwork (Forms 15 and 16 plus the couple completing Form 14 Decs), the current (Australian) address of the clients is what appears on the paperwork - this will differ (obviously) from the European address they used when originally lodging from overseas. You will need to make a note on the NOIM indicating that the couple now live here.

Re: NOIM completed overseas
Yes, thanks for the reminder. I know I need to put their current address on the other paperwork but my question is more about whether or not I should be altering a document which has already been signed and witnessed. I know they are both working here but don't know whether they are on work visas or planning to emigrate. I will check this out.

Dear Naomi,
My understanding is that the NOIM cannot be altered and that at the time of signing your couple were not resident in Australia. Just to be 100% certain however I rang NSW BDM and yes, at the time of signing the NOIM they had zero period of residence in Australia, so you leave it as that! What happens subsequently doesn't affect that NOIM.
Warm wishes,
