There is a significant increase in the number of celebrants now competing for wedding work click here
So as the Australia Bureau of Statistics says. these future changes in the size, distribution and composition of the population can have far reaching implications for economic and social well being.

From our point of view, as people working in the celebration services industry, how can these figures be helpful to us?

• Unless one can increase market share, then there is little extra to be gained from wedding work.
• However other celebrations are a market that has until now been under-estimated.

The ACCN considers there are product ad service possibilities related to:

funerals and memorials, particularly home based services such as personalised ceremonies and services related to wakes

60th, 70th and 80th birthdays and 20, 25, 30, 35+ weddings anniversaries, given the statistics quoted below, particularly related to personalised 'This is Your Life" style ceremonies, where family history can also be documented for future generations. Such events may be suitable to arrange amongst a group of small businesses as a "Weekend Celebration Package". Would not an increase range in special occasions offer increased work for receptions places, florists, party hire services, photographers, cake makers and the like ? Developing small business packages between celebration services such as party planners & equipment hire, reception & function centres, accommodation services and others and our civil celebration is what the ACCN is promoting amongst our ACCN members and other civil celebrants

Civil celebrants have the skills to provide meaningful and memorable ceremonies as a part of family party celebrations, and so can add that extra special touch to a family, or even corporate celebration.

Therefore the ACCN recommends celebrants, and all other celebrations suppliers who are not currently doing so, join their local business networks, that much more can be achieved by building relationships with other small ( and not so small) local businesses.

The population aged 65 years and over is projected to increase rapidly throughout the first half of the period both in terms of numbers and as a proportion of the total population, from 2.3 million in 1999 to about 4.2 million in 2021 and between 6.4 and 6.8 million in 2051.

"Since 1983 the number of deaths has increased by 1% on average annually. The steady increase in the number of deaths over time reflects the increasing size of the population and, in particular, the increasing number of older people. With continued ageing of the population the number of deaths will continue to rise, with deaths projected to outnumber births sometime in the 2030s" -ABS.

"Around 218,000 people born in 1945-46 turned 60 last financial year, according to figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The remaining baby boomers will reach this milestone over the next two decades, with the largest age group, who were born in 1963, turning 60 in the year 2023" - ABS.

Projected population growth varies considerably across Australia's States and Territories and reflects the interaction of three components: natural increase; net overseas migration; and net interstate migration. In each of the three fastest growing populations (i.e. the Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia), growth is dominated by different components.

In the Northern Territory natural increase contributes over 80% of projected population growth. In Queensland, net population gains from interstate migration make the largest contribution to projected population growth. Western Australia receives a relatively large share of overseas settlers in relation to its population size. Net overseas migration is projected to become the main driver of its population growth within the next 10 years as the contribution of natural increase declines.

All capital cities are projected to experience greater rates of population growth than their respective State/Territory balances, but the degree to which this occurs varies considerably. For example, Melbourne's projected rate of growth between 1999 and 2021 is six times greater than for the rest of Victoria while Sydney's projected rate of growth is three times greater than for the rest of New South Wales. However, in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory there is relatively little difference, with strong growth projected across the whole State or Territory.
